“Casual Japanese (TAMEGUCHI)" Lesson
Many foreigners tend to stick to Japanese honorifics all the time, but to native speakers, this can feel a bit unnatural. If you keep using polite language with someone you’ve become friends with, it’s hard to truly close the distance between you. In Japanese, honorifics are formal and show respect, but they can also make it harder to express your desire to be friends and may create an invisible barrier in the relationship.

敬語を上手に話せても、タメ口は話せますか？外国人の多くはずっと敬語を使いがち！ネイティブからすると少し不自然です。友達になった相手といつまでも敬語を使っていると、心の距離はなかなか縮まりません。日本語における敬語はフォーマルで相手に敬意を示す一方で、「友達になりたい」という気持ちが伝わりにくく、関係性に壁を作ってしまうこともあります。
